Vocabulary Homefun for after Winter Break

No more Wordly Wise!

However, we are sticking with the vocabulary theme to make their homefun as purposeful as possible.

•  Each week, your child will write down 8-12 Unit Study words in their Word Wall Journal.

• They will be required to complete 4 activities each week from the hopscotch, and turn in the journal by Friday morning.
•  Then, on Friday, as part of our Unit Study test, these words will appear!

The Hopscotch Directions: (Click on the title of this post for the hopscotch directions.)

1st jump: Write the definition for EACH word. (The students may take their unit study text book home with them to accomplish this task.)

2nd jump: Choose between writing a sentence or drawing a picture for EACH word.

3rd jump: Write EACH word in alphabetical order.

4th jump: Choose between creating and completing a crossword puzzle for EACH word or writing a story with at least 8 words.

Field Trip on Wednesday

Field trip reminders: 

(Wednesday, December 7 to the Pink Palace and Sharpe Planetarium)

• Any child that is 8 years old AND less than 4 feet 9 inches MUST have a booster seat on Wednesday.
  
• Each child needs to bring a sack lunch.
  
• Your child may wear jeans on Wednesday in celebration of our class reaching 100% in the CSPN Support Drive at the beginning of the year.

Moriah House Giving

Holiday Giving Opportunity

In the spirit of giving, the Campus School students will be collecting items December 5th – December 9th for Moriah House and the Mid-South Food Bank. Moriah House is Memphis Union Mission’s safe house for women and their children. The Mid-South Food Bank fights hunger by efficiently collecting and distributing wholesome food, while educating the community about the problem of hunger and advocating on behalf of hungry people. In our tough economic times, these organizations need our help more than ever. Campus School families can help by donating the following items.

Moon Homefun Next Two Weeks

For the weeks of November 28 and December 5 students will be required to draw the moon phase each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and write a description of what they see.

The form and directions will be sent home on Monday, November 28.

It will be due on Friday of each of those weeks.

Field Trip!

Pink Palace Field Trip Form

We will be going to the Pink Palace Museum and Sharpe Planetarium on Wednesday, December 7. The total cost for your child will be $6.75 and for adults it will also be $6.75. The money is due Wednesday, November 30. (We have to pay in advance.) Please make checks payable to CSPN.

We will be leaving school around 8:30 and returning around 1:30. We will be eating lunch at the museum, following our planetarium show. Please send in a bag lunch from home.

We need volunteers to drive and chaperone. Please send in a copy of your driver’s license and up-to-date Tennessee car insurance, if you have not already done so. Remember that no child is allowed to sit in the front seat unless riding with their parent. In addition, each driver must come to Campus School and register on one of our computers to be a level 1 volunteer prior to the field trip.

Our Family Gathering will be Friday, November 17 on Responsibility! Hope you can make it!

Stanford Math for Homefun

The students will begin completing Stanford math sessions next week.  They will be completing one of their sessions at school; however, the students are to complete 60 minutes, or 2 30-minute sessions each week.  Therefore, one of the two weekly sessions will need to be completed at home each week.  To help in achieving this goal, the students will only receive three nightly homefun assignments in math each week, instead of four.  One of the four nightly homefun assignments will be to complete their Stanford math session.  As long as the student has the session completed by Friday morning, it is up to you and your child when this is completed.  I will reset the week on Friday afternoon, so they may complete it over the weekend if they would prefer, or any night during the school week.  The website for Stanford Math http://stanfordmathproxy.mcsk12.net/cam/

Grandparents' Day & Picture Day September 15

Grandparent's Day is September 15. Our lunch is 11:55-12:25. If your grandparent is buying lunch from the cafeteria, it is $3.50. Otherwise, your grandparent can bring his/her own lunch (or just sit with their grandchild).

Picture Day is also September 15. A picture form went home yesterday for orders. (You must PREPAY to receive pictures).

CSPN Donation Drive & Fundraiser

Please send in your family's donation to CSPN as soon as possible. If we have 100%, our class will earn a jeans day!

Don't forget about selling the Entertainment Books. The fundraiser concludeds August 26. If you do not purchase your child's book, you MUST send it back (the 2011-2012 version). The old one, is yours to keep.

Your child's spelling for the next week will go home on Fridays (unless something comes up). It is not homefun over the weekend. Some families like to get a head start. Your family does not have to. It is not due until the next Friday.

Across the Lines by Carolyn Reeder

Next week we will officially begin reading Across the Lines by Carolyn Reeder. This was on the supply list at the beginning of the year. Please send in a copy for your child by Friday, May 6, if you have not already done so.

However, if your child is not used to a huge pancake breakfast, please do not begin that tradition that week! :) Also, try to avoid as many distractions, as morning arguments, as possible, so your child will not be worried or upset during the testing. 
 
I have set up a sign up page on the wiki for any snack donations for that week. It is a nice treat for the students after their hard work. We need juice boxes (or water) and one food snack per day. Please send in individually packaged foods that do not need refrigerated.
 
Additionally, during the test, the students may chew gum or have a peppermint.

Education Day at Redbirds Stadium! April 26, 2011

Take me out to the ballgame! Campus School is planning a field trip to see our own Memphis Redbirds at the annual Education Day game. To make parking and chaperoning easier we are making arrangements to rent school busses for transportation. In order to plan accordingly we need to know if you would like to chaperone in advance.



When: April 26th 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM


Cost: $10 for both students and adults (plus lunch)

Please let your child’s teacher know by Friday 2/25.

Spelling Homefun is no more! (...for now)

There will not be anymore Spelling Homefun until after TCAP!

However, in its place, your child will be bringing home a Social Studies TCAP prep workbook. They will have a four pages to complete each week. They should bring home their textbook, and they need to write the page number in the book for where each answer is located.  They need to use the book!

Remember, Standford Math and Grammar is another resource you have available at home to help your child practice concepts.

Book Fair and Valentine's Day Party

The Book Fair starts next week. A flyer is going home today with more information.

In addition, our Valentine's Party is on Monday at 1:30, please send in a Valentine for ALL students.

Discovery Test #3

We will have the third and final Discovery Benchmark assessment  next week. 


We will start on Monday morning with Reading-Language Arts, and finish on Tuesday morning with the Math portion. 


We will have snack on Monday and Tuesday for a break. Please send in a snack for your student. (Something easy and not so messy). 


We will have any make ups on Thursday.


Please make sure your child is well rested and has eaten breakfast.

Stax & Brooks Museum Field Trips

January 28, 2011 - Stax Musuem Field Trip Form

Dear Parents,
 The time for our field trip to Stax has been confirmed. We will be leaving Campus at 11:35, and arriving at Stax at 12:00. The field trip coordinator stated that students in fourth grade take around an hour to explore the musuem. In order to encourage students to take their time and look at the displays, each group will have a scavenger hunt to complete. We will aim to leave the musuem no later than 2:00 (though it may be earlier).

We will eat lunch at school at 11:10. You are more than welcome to come join us, if you are able.

In addition, the last trip to Brooks Musuem as been rescheduled for March 3, 2011. If you are able to drive, we would love to have you. This is a FREE field trip for chaperones and students.

Field Trip to Stax Museum on January 28, 2011!

Dear Parents,

In celebration of Black History Month and Memphis’ place in history, we have arranged for a field trip to Stax Museum. “The story of Stax Records is one of a cultural phenomenon that changed the culture of music forever - locally, nationally, and internationally. What began as a tiny record store in an old movie theater at the corner of McLemore Avenue and College Street in Memphis, Tennessee, grew to become one of the most important music recording studios in the world.”

Each grade level will be sharing their field trip experience during February’s Family Gatherings. You are invited to attend to learn about more intriguing learning experiences that are happening all over the building!

The field trip costs $7.50 per students and $10.50 per adult chaperone. Please send in the money by January 21. If you are writing a check, make it out to CSPN.
